Church History

Lees’ Chapel Church of God in Christ was established under the Leadership of Elder C.W. LEE. The church started under a hill in the 2100 block of Douglass and later relocated to 1605 Douglass. A plot of land owned by Mother Bryant was purchased and later became the new site for the church on September 6, 1955. There was a host of members instrumental in supporting the building project, including Brothers A. Cotton, P. Butler, H. Williams, and Sister M. Butler.

In the early 1960’s, Elder Lee asked Elder L.J. Francis to assist him in overseeing the church. Before going home to be with the Lord, Elder Lee appointed Elder Francis Pastor of the church. The church was part of the Oklahoma Northwest State Jurisdiction, under the leadership of Prelate, Bishop Hearne, and later Bishop J.A. Young. God continued to bless Elder Francis for his faithful service in the ministry resulting with him becoming Superintendent over the Fredrick District.

On June 29, 1990, Superintendent Francis was appointed to the office of Bishop by Senior Bishop James Feltus, Jr. resulting in an organizational change. Lee’s Chapel Church of God in Christ was renamed Powerhouse Church of God in Christ United. On November 22, 1992, the church relocated to its current location of 2502 SW Jesse Lee. Davenport. Bishop Francis continue to do the work of the lord with immeasurable results until his passing. Bishop Francis was a Godly man that blaze the trail for younger preachers to follow for many years to come.

On April 2, 1996, Bishop Turrentine succeeded Bishop Francis in leadership over Powerhouse with the assistance of Elder Robert Green. These two men worked tirelessly together in the Kingdom of God seeking the best for God’s people. Under the leadership of Bishop Turrentine, countless lives were changed due to his compassionate love of preaching the Gospel. His demonstration of love to all continued until the Lord summoned him home on October 13, 2009. Keith Moore was appointed Pastor of Powerhouse Church of God in Christ United, by Bishop Pearson on Sunday, March 14, 2010, and he served until June 2014. The members remained steadfast and determined to keep Powerhouse church on the move through prayer, fasting, and seeking direction from God for new leadership.

On September 12, 2015, there was a Pastoral installation ceremony for the church’s newly appointed leader. Elder Charles D. Gladney Sr. was commissioned Pastor, by Bishop Lee Vicker Broom, Oklahoma Northwest Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Prelate. At that time, l Churches of God in Christ,Inc, Headquarters Memphis, Tennessee confirmed and continues to recognize the church’s stated name as being, “Powerhouse Church of God in Christ Ministries, INC.” We are excited about what God continues to do under the leadership of Pastor, Charles Gladney Sr., and First Lady Jeanine Gladney.
Pastor Gladney wholeheartedly believes the following:

  • -Prayer & Fasting are essential for Spiritual growth and development
-Unity of the Saints provides strength
    -Compassion hearts win hurting hearts
-Attendance of Bible Study is a good practice
-It is not how your start, but how you finish in Jesus Christ
-The Holy Ghost is essential in the lives of believers
    – Believers are not to comprise God’s word, even in the face of adversity
-People do not care how much you know, until they know how much you care
